M8 Text Message Issue After Lollipop Update
ProblemHi, when I first updated my phone’s software with the lollypop update, it seemed that everything was working better and faster…especially with my texting messages. However, by the next day, I have a hard time getting into my text messages especially the group (mms) threads. Sometimes they don’t even let me in and I get a white screen. What can be done?
Solution: This seems like an app related issue and in cases like this clearing the app cache works best. You should try clearing the cache of your messaging app first and see if this resolves the issue.
  • Swipe down the Status bar.
  • Tap the Settings icon.
  • Scroll to and tap Apps.
  • Swipe to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the application.
  • Scroll to and tap Clear cache.
  • The application cache is now cleared.
M8 Verizon Issues After Latest Update
ProblemI had a working unlocked m8 before trying to get the Verizon software update this February. After I got the update to work after a day and a half with poor internet connection, I got a SIM error that won’t go away in the notifications at the top of the screen and my APN settings are suddenly locked and I can’t customize my mms settings to fit my new Australian carrier settings. The phone does all the basics except mms, that SIM error, and I only have h & e instead of 4g like this phone is branded to do. I’ve tried multiple factory resets, called HTC and Verizon, tweeted them, uninstalled the sync manager, tried a different computer (pc, Windows 7&8), and got a new internet connection. And now I have the option to repair and a new update has rolled out . I tried to do both of those and it stops me at 12% and says the device is disconnected. The HTC screen turns white with colorful letters on it then the update/repair stops. I really want my M8 to work like the beast I know it is. Please help.
Solution: The Verizon model of the M8 does not have any way for you to set the APN settings which is needed if you want to send an MMS or connect to a fast mobile data while using the phone on a different network. It appears that even when the phone is updated to Lollipop these settings are still not available.
Some owners of this phone having the same issue as you are having right now have opted to use a custom ROM on their phone. The most popular choice is CyanogenMod however this might not suite some users who prefer the stock firmware of their phone.
M8 Unable To Hear Calls
ProblemHi, over the past couple of weeks people are unable to hear me when I call them or they call me. If I put the phone on speaker it works but not for normal calls. Do u have any advice? Thanks
Solution: If this is a software related problem then a factory reset is needed to resolve it. This bring your phone back to its original condition when you first bought it. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding.
  • Press and hold the Power button
  • Tap Power off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down key.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.
  • Press the Power key to perform the master reset.
If the issue persists then this may already be hardware related. Bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
M8 Ads Popup
ProblemHI, my problem with my HTC One M8 is every few minutes whatever I’m doing is interrupted with ads by Google. What can I do to stop them from doing this?  Thank you for your expert help.
Solution: These ads that appear randomly are most likely caused by third party apps installed in your phone. If you installed an app, especially a free app, prior to this happening then it is the most likely suspect.
To check if an app is causing this issue you should start your phone in Safe Mode.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
  • When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
  • When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
If the ads don’t appear in this mode then find out what app is causing this and uninstall it.
M8 Dropping Bluetooth Connection After Lollipop Update
ProblemHi, I’ve updated my HTC M8 with lollipop. I’m having major issues with connection to my in car Bluetooth. It connects but then drops and then connects again. It keeps repeatedly connecting and dropping. The media player doesn’t work at all.  I’m driving a Skoda Superb 2012 with built-in system and previous to the update the phone worked perfectly well.
Solution: If your car Bluetooth system has any firmware updates available then try to get them since this may work well with the Lollipop update.
On the phone side, you should first unpair your car Bluetooth connection then delete it. Scan for it again and pair with it.
If the problem persists then your last option is to do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.
M8 Can’t Play Recorded Videos
ProblemSo I got my new phone, second hand and I think it’s Google edition because there is no logo besides HTC. Problem: when I try to play recorded videos it says “sorry video can’t be played” after a few seconds. And I’m beginning to wonder if I should send it back. But I know I won’t get a deal like this again. So if you have any ideas of what to do I would love to hear them. Thanks.
Solution: Try restarting your phone first as this may just be a software glitch.
If the issue persists then check where the recorded video file is being saved. If it is stored in the microSD then try to change the storage area to the phone internal storage. Record a video and see if it plays. If it plays well then the microSD may be faulty.
If the same error message appears then try to start you phone in Safe Mode to check if a third party app is causing this to happen.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
  • When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
  • When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
Record a video and play it. If it plays fine then find out what app is causing the issue and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step you can do is a factory reset. This is to be done when all else fails. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.
M8 Can’t Connect To Wi-Fi After Lollipop Update
ProblemHello, My phone just did an upgrade to Lollipop. After download and install, my phone is continually trying to connect to my WiFi with out success. Thanks.
Solution: Try to reboot your phone and your wireless router first and see if the issue gets resolved. If not, then long press on your Wi-Fi network and forget it. Scan for it again and reconnect to it.
If all else fails then do a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data first before proceeding.
M8 Text Messaging App Lags After Lollipop Update
ProblemHi, I have a Verizon based HTC One M8 to which I just applied the OTA update to Lollipop. Now the standard Messages app is acting weird. Namely:
1) The app itself takes about 5 seconds to launch.
2) The built-in HTC Sense keyboard lags in fits and starts. Sometimes it works normally, but usually I have to type several characters before they all show up at once. Needless to say, trying to do Swype style typing is out of the question.
3) When I hit the send message icon, I get another lag of about 5 seconds before the app responds.
I rely heavily on text messaging for both work and personal use. This is getting really annoying very quickly. None of these were issues before the update. Any ideas how to fix this?
Solution: Try clearing the cache of your messaging app and see if this solves the issue. In most cases, clearing the app cache makes the app perform faster and eliminates any app related issues.
M8 Apps/Games Close Randomly After Software Update
ProblemI have recently (within a months time) updates the software on my HTC ONE M8 and have just recently had two problems.
  1. Car mode was turning on randomly, even when I wasn’t driving. I think that problem is resolved now that I used your website.
  2. The biggest problem for me. Apps and games are closing by themselves. The strange thing is that they are only doing so during the day.  At night, I have no problems.  I play the Google based augmented reality game, Ingress, and the game loads and then the phone shuts the game down.  I was playing Warzone on my phone and played it for 3 minutes and yet again, the game closed down by itself. I’m hoping that you can help me and give me a solution that doesn’t have to do with giving my phone a factory reset makeover. Thanks for your time.
Solution: Try clearing the cache of the affected apps and games and see if the issue gets resolved.
If the problem persists then uninstall the affected apps and games then install again from the Google play Store.
If the apps and games still randomly closes then the next thing to do is to wipe the cache partition of your phone.
  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
  • If this does not resolve your issue, the next step a master reset.
M8 Wrong Software Update
ProblemHi! My problem is that my software update was interrupted due to lack of mobile data available because my available mobile data that time is only 250mb but the update was 270mb. So in short, the update didn’t finished. When I came home, I connected my device to our WiFi and then continue the update. The update was successful but after that I lost access to my main camera it can’t detect anymore the back camera. When I open the HTC camera app it automatically just detect the front camera. I already brought my device to HTC service center Philippines and they said that my device is not yet supported. Then I brought my device to the store where I bought it, then their diagnosis is wrong software update. Due to the update was interrupted when I tried to update. I also done soft and hard reset. The problem is still the same. Is there any recovery that I can do?
Solution: You should try to connect your phone to a computer running on the latest version of HTC Sync Manager and see if a software upgrade is available. If it is then just follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Connect your phone to your computer. If your phone has an available update, a notification displays.
  • Click Upgrade.
  • On the Software Upgrade Assistant page, select your phone from the list, and then click Upgrade. Your computer downloads the update. After the download is completed, the software update process starts immediately.
  • During the update, the phone will restart a few times.
  • A message appears when the update has been completed. Click Close to return to HTC Sync Manager.
If no update is available then you may opt to flash your phone firmware. You can choose a stock firmware or a custom ROM such as CyanogenMod. Instructions on how to do this are available at most of the popular Android forums online.
M8 Volume Decreases After Lollipop Update
ProblemI updated my Verizon HTC one m8 to lollipop and now when my phone is having speaker issues. When I first boot my phone up the speakers are fine. When I exit out of apps that are using the speakers (i.e. spotify, YouTube, espn, ect.) and shut the screen off, the next time I use those apps the sound is reduced by half so now when I have the volume all the way up it sounds like it is at half volume. If I shut the phone off and turn it back on, the sound is fine until I am done using a media app that uses sound, then the sound is decreased by half volume and I have to reboot the phone again to get the volume back to normal.
Solution: Try wiping the cache partition of your phone and see if this resolves the issue.
If the problem persists then a factory reset is highly recommended. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.
