Welcome to another installment of our #Samsung Galaxy #Note4 troubleshooting series. What we aim to do is to resolve the issues that our readers are experiencing with this particular model. In this latest installment we will tackle the Galaxy Note 4 no connectivity issue & other related problems. For this problem, the phone is unable to go online either through Wi-Fi, mobile data or both. We have gathered several issues of this nature sent to us by our readers and have addressed them as best as we could below.

Note 4 No Connectivity
Problem: when on wifi – internet works fine when on 4g there is no connectivity despite what browser is used (mainly chrome), dns probe blah blah blah… also idk if this is pertinent but 4g lte icon only upload arrow blinks, download arrow has no activity. Please help!
Solution: Since the issue concerns mobile data the first thing that you should do is to check if the phone has a 4G data by checking its signal, which in this case the phone has. Next, you should contact your service provider and inquire if there are any account related issues that may be preventing you from using your mobile data.
Once you have made sure that the problem is not signal or account related it is time to check the phone.
For this issue you should start by checking if the phone has the correct APN settings. This setting is needed if you want to use your mobile data or if you want to send and receive a picture message. Compare the APN settings of your carrier to the one srt in your phone. Make the necessary changes if needed.
This issue can also be caused by a third party app you installed in your phone. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. Check if you can use your mobile data in this mode. If you can then an app could be causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If you are still unable to use your mobile data then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Intermittent Wi-Fi Connection
Problem: Wifi connection “comes and goes”. The device connect, stay connected for 10~20 seconds… and then disconnect. The hotspot is ok, this problem not happen with my notebook, tv or my other Phone. What can be causing this?  Thanks for attention and help!
Solution: If this problem does not occur on your other devices then it’s safe to assume that the router is not causing this issue. To troubleshoot this problem on the phone side try to restart your phone first. Once the phone has fully booted up open the Wi-Fi settings then forget your Wi-Fi connection. Scan for the connection again and connect to it. You may need to enter the network key if the connection is secured.
If the problem persists then try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data in your phone which could cause the problem.
Another factor to consider is a third party app installed in your device. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode then use your Wi-Fi connection. If you are not disconnected in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
In the event that the above troubleshooting steps fail then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so make sure to make a backup copy first.
Note 4 Not Connecting To Mobile Data
Problem: So I’m travelling abroad from March to August, so I opened a line with T-Mobile for their international plan. I have a Galaxy Note 4 with Verizon, that is supposedly unlocked. I plugged in my new SIM Card from T-Mobile, turned on my phone, and had access to texts and calls, but not to the data network. I did some googling, set up the T-Mobile APN, and it still won’t work. Any chance you have some advice for me that could help fix this?
Solution: First, make sure that you have the correct T-Mobile APN setting in your phone.
  • Name: T-Mobile US LTE
  • APN: fast.t-mobile.com
  • Proxy: <Not set>
  • Port: <Not set>
  • Username: <Not set>
  • Password: <Not set>
  • Server: <Not set>
  • MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
  • MMS proxy: <Not set>
  • MMS port: <Not set>
  • MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
  • MCC: 310
  • MNC: 260
  • Authentication type: <Not set>
  • APN type: <Not set> OR Internet+MMS
  • APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
  • APN roaming protocol: IPv4
  • Enable/disable APN: <greyed out unless there are multiple APN’s>
  • Bearer: Unspecified
Next, try using the different network modes and check which mode you can connect to your mobile data.  The modes you need to test are Global, LTE/CDMA, GSM/UMTS.
If you are still unable to connect then check if your location has something to do with the issue. Try to go to a different location and see if the issue still occurs.
Another thing that you should do is to verify with T-Mobile if there are any issues with your account that may be preventing you from using your mobile data.

Note 4 Can’t Connect to Wi-Fi
Problem: Getting terrible service. Gf has a note 4 that is white. No problems at all. Using wifi I’m getting nothing. Wifi shows I’m in range at full. Turn data on… Nothing. Turn wifi off when data is on and boom! Service like you couldn’t ask for. Verizon wouldn’t even look at my phone. Was quick to talk about an upgrade. You belief that shit! Please help. I use my phone for my business.
Solution: The first thing that you should do is to determine if the problem is isolated to this particular Wi-Fi network or if the problem also occurs when the phone connects to a different Wi-Fi network. If you are near other wireless hotspots then try connecting the phone to it.
If the phone can connect to a different network without any issues then here’s what you need to do
  • If you have access to the router that you can’t connect to then reboot it. You should also reboot your phone
  • Once both devices are turned on delete th Wi-Fi connection from the phone. Scan for it again then connect to it.
  • If you have other wireless devices then try to connect these devices to the network and check if they can connect.
  • If your phone still can’t go online then wipe its cache partition from the recovery mode.
  • If the issue persists then backup the phone data then do a factory reset.
If the phone has the same issue when connecting to different wireless networks then you should immediately proceed with backing up the phone data and do a factory reset. If after the reset the same issue occurs even on different wireless networks then this could already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you have the phone checked at an authorized service center.
Note 4 Wi-Fi Not Working For One Particular Network
Problem: my note 4 wifi is connected but at 1 place it is not working but at other places it is working. It is working on my apartment and all other places but it is not working in my lab although it is connected there but still not working,i cant access to internet please help me
Solution: Try deleting the affected Wi-Fi network from your phone then scan for it again and connect to it. If you still can’t access the Internet then this could be a problem with the network itself which probably has some firewall activated. I suggest you contact the system administrator regarding this matter.
